Reaper Man
Reaper Man (born Ryan Lee McDaniel on November 6, 1993) is an American rapper from Nashville, Tennessee, raised in the small town of Columbia. His music sits between gangster rap and heavy, dark rock, a sound often called underground rock rap because it won’t stay inside one genre. He is best known for his April 2022 single “Rollout Mission,” the track that put his name in front of a much wider audience. StreamRap He is the son of Jeffrey Lee McDaniel and the late Tina Denise McDaniel. Columbia shaped the way he writes. He grew up there during a stretch defined by drugs and crime, and that world runs through his catalog. Guns, street life, and a deep distrust of law enforcement come up again and again, delivered with the bluntness of someone who lived near it. He doesn’t dress it up, and he doesn’t apologize for it. His music started early. He began writing and recording at 15, alone in his bedroom, putting in hours nobody saw. As he got older, real life took over. He worked a string of jobs to keep the bills paid, including laying carpet and working at gas stations, and he started a family with his wife, Violet Lynn McDaniel. The music went quiet, but the hunger never left. Two things pulled him back for good. The birth of his second child made him ask what kind of example he wanted to set. Then, in 2021, he lost his mother, Tina, to Covid-19. That loss is a thread through his work. Alongside the aggression, he makes songs that sit in the dark and talk honestly about depression, grief, and the thoughts a lot of people carry but rarely say out loud. He wants those songs to make someone feel less alone, so he can hit hard in one track and hit close to home in the next.
